Misleading product description.

It's a beautiful watch with a low profile look. However, the product description says that the watch has luminous hands and hour markers. This wasn't true when I received the watch, and it's difficult to read the time in low lit situations. This would have been a 5 star review if the watch did have luminous markers as described. Unfortunately had to return.

Small Seiko Submariner

Smaller than your average Seiko dive watch. It doesn't have much wrist presence, but good for those who want a smaller submariner style.

It has a light olive green colored bezel and dial. The red tip on the second's hand does a good job indicating the black on white minute marks.

BAND: It came with a cheap, rough feeling metal mesh band. I replaced it with a 22mm NATO Burton band.

Bezel clicks smartly counterclockwise; however, I prefer a bezel with minute markings all the way around.

I’ve never bought a seiko lots of my friends have seiko - I own a few other watches / Rolex (I inherited) / Tag Carrera and a Tissot - so first Japanese watch … as you can see the package was iffy - the rotor “oscillating weight” makes a noise when I move it - so I’m not 100% sure if that’s an issue - it did come with a warranty card - that was blank - I went to seikos website and of course part of the info they want is on the package and everything was covered up with a sticker (again refer to pictures)

While mine did not have any of the scarily common QC issues (cmon Seiko, misaligned dial components and chapter rings in this price range does not inspire confidence in the brand), I find the watch kinda cheap. Especially compared with the (now older) Seiko 5.

1st disappointment is the bracelet. It’s way too shiny. At least I have another watch I can repurpose it as it is of fairly good quality.

Next the bezel is wobbly and not very precise.

The drop in water resistance and lack of screw down crown.

Both of these things really make this watch not much better than any other “diver looking” fashion watch.

Even at discount there is better value, such as an Orient Mako or Ray, or in quartz the Casio MDV series (Marlin) or the Citizen Promaster BN0151.

On the plus side, mine is only gaining 5 seconds a day, and lume is very good (not very bright but lasts a long time). The movement upgrade to hacking and handwinding is also welcome.

This is a great looking watch and because I have small hands it fits and looks nice. However the wrist strap, which is like cloth-material is really crappy. It hangs off and is super long. I think there’s a way to adjust it but I didn’t figure it out and it was kind of annoying. I would’ve given this watch five stars except for the strap. It’s great for people with small wrists and hands .

Black Watch is a day time only watch

I bought the black watch partly because the picture shows it as much more visible than it really is. Everything is much blacker than the picture other than the band. So basically, I can't read it unless I am in a lit room, outside or have enough light where I can tilt it to catch a reflection. So with that out of the way, I still plan on keeping it because it is good looking and so far is very accurate. Just be aware that it is not a watch you can go to sleep with, wake up and know what time it is. It is strictly a day time watch or maybe a style watch and not one that is your only watch.

This is the first Seiko I've purchased on Amazon and an unforeseen issue is that it's not a Canadian watch. Normally that wouldn't be an issue but because this Seiko 5 has the day and date, when it switches over at midnight to 3am, the secondary language for the day is in Spanish. I would prefer it be in English but I'm used to French. Spanish is just too much to get used to. This may or may not be an issue for you but for me it cost the rating a star.

Secondly, it was delivered in a paper envelope with no cushioning which is just stupid. It was literally the standard box stuffed inside a paper envelope. No paper wrap /air bubble or cushioning of any kind. Needless to say, the box was very dented.

As far as the watch goes, it's a good price at $350-ish tax included for an automatic and being the only non modded Seiko I've seen with a bronze finish makes it unique. I'm still on the fence about keeping it as the language really bothers me. I still update with regards to accuracy.

Es un Seiko 5, no hay mucho que decir, son relojes de calidad. El problema de este modelo en particular es muy difícil de leer en condiciones de luz baja, el dial es negro, las marcas son una variación de negro, y las manecillas son otra variación de negro... Muy buen reloj excepto si quieres ver cual es la hora sin tener que estar buscando luz fuerte.

I bought the black Seiko with black face and black strap. The watch looked great but the crown would completely screw out of the watch so I was unable to wind or set it. It must have been a return or got damaged in shipping.

All in all a nice watch with a good movement but it has its shortcomings. The size is deceptive and it wears much smaller than its 42mm case dimensions. It also wears taller in the same regards especially with the chapter ring giving the dial a compact stadium effect. It’s case brushing is Meh and after thought but unlike many Seikos today everything lines up well and the lume is excellent and long lasting. No way is this watch worth what Seiko asks in price but if gotten through discount it’s a solid choice. You would get more for spending a little more in quality if you stepped up to a samurai for example. Doss the job and looks good but not worth full fare.
