Somebody needs to break the news to Kingsford that charcoal gets hot. What a piece of garbage. Poured the hot coals out to find the inner plate falling out too. The rivets holding the plate melted. Bought this to replace the one I had for 15 years.
I spent more than 30 minutes filing off the razor sharp metal components. The quality control was a real disappointment for a normally fine Kingsford product. It does not require much time to insure that the metal parts are filed smooth to protect users from lacerations. That is not much to ask.
I have been using these for over 10 years. I have never had one blow up!!! I set it on the ground on a small grate and went in to prep my meat and literally it blew up with such force that it blew a hole in the cement. I thought it was odd it didn't have breathing holes down the side but it had such a high clearance inside that with the holes at the bottom I figured it should be fine. Nope. I do not recommend. My dogs ended up running in over the hot coals and it was a disaster. 0 stars
First use aluminum rivets failed, DO NOT add a little extra heat while waiting for coals to get to temp/color. All other chimney starters from the past rarely had rivets holding the coal beds and could handle dual propane bayou classic boiling torch, this one was about half way through my first use and thankfully I saw the coals slip down, used a shovel to catch the bottom and keep from starting a fire. Anyways, factory defect, discard using sub par rivet material. No refund needed, lesson learned and I will be modifying this one a little. Cheers from the Trinity mountains!
Ordered because of the name Kingsford. My old one had a screen type bitten and charcoal got ready quickly. This one has a series of holes, not near the open space to reach the charcoal. Tried it first time, lit paper under 3 times. Ran out of time, used in house oven.
Well you get what you pay for. I passed on the Weber chimney and went with this Kingsford model since it was cheaper. First use and the screws holding the plastic handle pieces fell out. I learned my lesson.
Looks good right out of the package put the paper in the bottom charcoal in the top no problem, light the paper in the bottom no problem, wait for charcoal to get going no problem .Done this a lot with the others I have had in the past mo problem, check to see if charcoal is doing what it is suppose to do it is no problem,Wait another 5 minutes I smell plastic burning from somewhere I go look and the plastic handle had melted half way down TOTAL PIECE OF JUNK i wont be buying another Kingsford product again other than their Charcoal
