I tend to cook separate meats at the same time and thus having 3+ probes is great, taking out at separate times based on medium and medium rare is good. It simply works well. I haven't had an issue tbh.

I started out with a single probe and always wanted more, as me and Mrs like rib eye, daughter has fillet, always thick cut, different coverings, with medium and medium rare, having the ability to simply put in with probe and base your cooking style/wish and knowing the internal temp separately which i still carry on doing other prep is so easy.

I have started to do wrapping more, also i like it that i get a nice crust on the meats while the middle is medium or medium rare perfect. My daughter was doing a team meeting today, she just told me, her highlight of the weekend in chat was my steak meal, where the meat just melted in her mouth. I cant judge this myself normally, so its a must have for me now. Confident to cook 4 different steaks at the same time on different sections - indeed i am.

If you can get away with 1 as i did great but you will buy more in the future once you get used to it, so why buy just 1 when you'll get 4 anyways when your used to using it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Has performed well, but some usability issues

I have used wired thermometers and have found them to be clumsy and less than ideal. I love the idea of having a wireless thermometer to help me get my meals right - I'm not the best cook in the world. The reason I went with the Meater is because I often cook for more than 2 people who like their meat/fish cooked differently and so needed a device with more than 1 or 2 probes. There were others I considered for various reasons but was not clear on how many probes could be connected so I opted for this one.

The GOOD: so far it has been right on with getting the meals cooked just right. I tested from medium rare to well done and each one has been done correctly whether meat or fish. So, in terms of improving my ability to serve the food the way it's requested it's been great and has helped improve my game. It also predicts the estimated cook time, including the resting time after taking it out. The first estimate has proven to be pretty accurate and rarely changes the estimate during cooking. The software is also pretty simple and straightforward as long as everything is "cooking" without issues. When there are issues, such as a lost signal, it is less intuitive on how to remedy the situation.

The NOT-SO-GOOD: The probes are quite thick and for thinner cuts of meat/fish will probably be less reliable. I had some thinner cuts of salmon that came out right, but I had to be very careful with the probe placement. They are also a bit long and need to be placed fairly deep, so for meat/fish that doesn't have at least a 4-inch width the tip of the probe may be too close to the surface of the opposite side leading to less reliable results, if that makes sense. Some of the other manufacturers have slimmer and shorter probes which I would prefer.

The FRUSTRATING: The probes connect to the "meat block" via Bluetooth (BT), which in my experience has a functional range of 10-15 feet max. Then the "meat block" can use your Wifi to connect to your phone and keep you posted on the progress of the cooking. This works well, as long as all of your probes are in cuts of meat/fish that are close to the BT enabled "meat block". However, if you are grilling something outdoors, and baking or frying something indoors there is a fair chance the "meat block" won't be in BT range of all of the probes and you'll have connection issues - which is the bane of this device's existence. Once you lose connection the estimated cook time is lost as are the updates so you're then flying blind. On at least one occasion when I relocated food so it was again in range of the "meat block" it was unable to re-establish connection and so was not able to estimate the cook time or send updates any longer. After that happened to me once I made a point of setting a timer on my phone for the estimated cook time just in case I lose connection again. This somewhat diminishes the benefit of having 4 probes. It might be better to purchase 2 two probe blocks so they can be monitoring food in different locations.

Overall, I'm satisfied but not overly so. I'm tempted to give it 3 stars however it has led to successful completion of just about every meal for which I've used them, which is the whole point of the device isn't it? Hence 4 stars. Because of the aforementioned shortcomings I cannot give it 5 stars. I haven't decided if I'll keep it or try a different brand that has slimmer shorter probes that can combine 2 BT stations to have a total of 4 probes. Once I've figured that out, I'll update the review.

Updated June 4 2023: Meater reached out and walked me through additional troubleshooting steps and got my fourth probe working. I am actually impressed at the dedicated support I got, but a part of me wants to stay annoyed at how hard it was to get to this point. BUT: I got what I paid for, it works the way I expected and is very convenient to cook with and not overcook or undercook meats. Increasing my review to four stars, I would add a half if I could at this point.

Everything below the line is the initial review.

I feel like I am an easy-to-please reviewer. If it works, you get at least four stars on Amazon. Pricing, quality, etc. also get factored in, but just work…

Which brings me to my Meater Block and it’s one star review today. Bought as a Christmas present, and after fumbling with it to get it on WiFi, and updating it, and updating it again, I could not get my fourth probe to work. Ever.

I wrote support. They said make sure it’s updated. C’mon man. I told them it was. They said reset it. Did that, no worky same probe. Updated it. Same problem. They closed my ticket. So I wrote them again, and…nothing. Just like my fourth probe.

So: buy at your own risk. Figure you’ll get at least 75% of your probes to work. Maybe.

First I would like to say that I do enjoy this product but I think it was to overkill for me personally but I decided to go big or go home. I have used this with my Traeger grill and has worked really good, the only thing about it is the coverage issue but when you have good coverage works really well. I usually keep the block outside with the grill, I have noticed that if left outside the block does report that it’s to hot but when I move it inside the connection drops.

If looking into the product I would just get the single one unless you plan on cooking multiple things at the same time, it’s worth the money either way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meater

After wanting this block for a while and spoken to a few mates who have them. They do cook things perfectly (2 probes did an 10 hour brisket cook no problem). I find it works better for me on my smoker which I’ve usually got set up in my garage, only downside was the block needed to be near my smoker so once I got my wifi extended into my garage then it worked a treat. The range is great as well. I was even away playing golf and was able to track my brisket cook from there. As for the App side it’s easily the best on the market. At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

The MEATER block and probes work great for most cooks. It is easy to use and setup. The only problem I’ve found so far is that if you have to wrap your meats with foil, the connection from probe to the block is blocked. An alternative is to use butcher paper, which works great.
