Bought this one after the factory one literally fell apart. When I received it I noticed right away the quality and feel of it. This is definitely a great value. It is a nice size for easy reading and seems accurate. I keep our outdoor grills covered when not in use so I don’t know if it would condensate if rained on. Have been using it for about 6 months with no problem. Will be buying another one for our grill at our cottage as the original on it is falling apart as well.
Seems that, while the temperature gauge goes up to 500degC, the paint used on the dial can't. As can been seen on the pic, the readout has faded from white to brown and is much more difficult to see. In fact it was almost impossible before cleaning rhe glass, which seemed to have had a coating which discoloured and cracked. This occurred at temps up 400degC (though I was trying for 500).
Bought to replace a blue ember FG50059 BBQ gauge. This is one of the shorter length stems which is needed. Had to remove an optional heat plate from the back to make fit, but worked like a charm. Plugged the other hole on the front with foil. So nice to have one of these. This is not the fault of ANY gauge, but remember they will over read temperate due to their location from the grill if you are using indirect heating. Make sure if you are smoking or doing indirect, you also have a digital thermometer separate from this.
I had a stainless steel UniFlame Gold gas BBQ grill that is 15 to 20 years old. The original thermometer broke many years ago and UniFlame has no spare parts anymore. This thermometer looked the same and when I installed it it was a perfect match for the origin on my grill. This one should our last the grill.
Delighted with this product. We drilled a hole in the lid of our bbq and then just screwed this in. We were then able to control the heat and roasted the veg for Xmas dinner which freed up the oven. Will also experiment with roasting meat with view to doing the turkey in there next time.
