My Pmprd Chf slicer rusted so I set out to replace it. This is sharper, but harder to center on the core of one's apple. I think maybe because I'm using small apples and this slicer is quite large so that it will accomodate large apples as well which will be convenient too. The directions aren't helpful when trying to use this the first time. You MUST flip the bottom away from the slicer as you cut through the apple. The bottom is ONLY meant to be put into place after the apple is 90% sliced through. At that point, you flip it back under the apple and finish slicing. The result is that all the slices and the core pop right out of the slicer. That is super convenient. I only took away a star because it's hard to balance the apple (unlike my last slicer) while slicing it AND they did not make it clear that one doesn't place the apple ON the bottom of the slicer. THAT is why people are complaining the design is poor. They just don't know how to use it. I mean it only takes a bit of common sense to figure it out, but still...
I love this Apple slicer. It’s sharp and cuts easily and I love the bottom part that flips around to push the slices through so you don’t have to risk your fingers doing it manually. The only drawback is that the core area is kind of small so you have to use care when slicing a larger apple to get it in the right spot but it’s not a deal breaker. It worked just fine on the Giant organic honey crisp apples I bought from Costco. I think the people who left reviews saying you can’t use this with bigger apples might be trying to place the apple on the gray piece and pushing down on the top with the apple in the middle. That’s not how it works. You slice the apple on a cutting board or whatever using the top part then pick it up and swing the grey part under and push down to pop the slices through. Works great. I’ll update on the longevity after we’ve been using it a while
This design pushes the apple up from the bottom. Its a clever design and ensures you get all of the apple slice and leaves no apple bits behind. Therefore, its easier to clean too and you don't have to stick your fingers in there to pull out the remaining pieces. It's sturdy, doesn't feel like it is going to break. You do have to push rather hard to get it through all of the apple but I am a senior and was able to do it.
Works well. I like that it has the bottom to flip and make the apples pop out. I sliced my thumb once when pushing an apple through a different wedger. It was a piece of junk that broke as I pushed the apple through. This is a much better quality. Knowing I had one that broke, I didn't want my children to slice their fingers open. I have a 9 year old who uses this to wedge apples for himself and his sister often and he has no trouble. I do agree with the reviewer who stated that apples get stuck in the middle sometimes. I just rinse it before I put it in the dishwasher, though, and don't have much trouble. If any piece does get stuck, I just use the small portion of a bottle brush to get it out. Bottom line, I would rather spend a few extra minutes washing it than worry about my little ones getting sliced by the blade. I recommend it.
So far from all the apple slicers I’ve used, this is the best! I like the bottom part that holds the apples once they’re sliced! However, like all slicers, it’s a pain to clean. But- best one I’ve used. So if you’re ok cleaning it, then def buy it :)
