Great but slices are super fat. To give you an idea, once I use this I cut each into 3 normal slices! But it works and doesn't require too much strength. I wish I could release the pieces in a way that keeps them from sliding across the plate and onto the counter or floor!
I thought it was a very clever idea, but when I tried to use it, I realized there is no way you can get an apple under the blade since it is hinged and can't come straight down on it. The blades are not sharp enough to easily cut through the apple. I have tried just cutting it without the hinged part, which sort of works, but you have to put a lot of weight on it to make it work. I've tried cutting the apple in pieces first, but that defeats the objective of being able to do it in one step. It just doesn't work very well, no matter how you look at it, and it didn't come with instructions, in case there is a way to use it that I'm missing.
We had one before that broke and liked it enough to order a new one. New one is not but together well and not only at slices very uneven, but it does not slice all the way through and tears fruit. Very poor quality control.
We use this thing all of the time. The only issue is it has become quite dull after using it for about a year. You have to really use your strength and get after it. It doesn’t cut the apple slices uniform anymore.
We use it weekly and liked it at first. In less than 6 months the cutting "edge" dulled to the point where we now resort to literally wacking / throwing down the apple on a cutting board to get it to cut through. We do love the pop out of the slices feature and that still is good. Feels not made to last and therefore why spend the extra money?
The idea is great and all except it's difficult to even utilize the bottom portion b/c it's attached. When you try to cut an apple and then finish it with the bottom portion, it hits the apple at an angle and isn't that effective. If you are able to cut the apple almost all the entire way down, then it does finish cutting it. Our normal sized apples get stuck and when trying to get them out my husband severely cut his thumb. Not impressed.
