The thermometer I replaced had a flat side which fit into a matching profile on my grill lid. This item had a completely round seat. I had to put a small grinding wheel on a dremel tool to make the lid hole round and fit the thermometer into the lid. It works fine after the alteration.
Not really too concerned about accuracy as long as it is relatively close. The stainless bezel the thermometer fits into has an eccentric hole with a flat spot for alignment. The shank on the generic thermometer is round. So I had to file a flat spot on the shank of the thermometer for it to fit. The bezel was very hard to file as I'm pretty sure is is stainless steel. I am a professional builder and have good tools so it wasn't real difficult, but took about 10 minutes. Should have taken 1 minute to swap.
Looks identical to my old one, but is not as pictured. Not a direct fit either, had to cut the trim as the new one has a full circle spacer on the back, while the old one is more 3/4 moon shaped. It does work though once you cut the trim hole larger.
Although touted as a replacement for the CharBroil installed gauge on my model, there was no mention of the 'cutout' (one flattened side on the round protruding mounting flange behind the dial) that is required to fit into the bezel on the grill lid. This one doesn't have that and so didn't fit. I don't have a workshop otherwise perhaps I could've ground one edge flat to accommodate the fitting. Or I could've just refused the thing and got a refund... Which I did.
