I like a nice even brown crust a lot better on my steak than grill marks, so have been using a cast iron griddle on the grill when I cook meat sous vide, rather than setting off the smoke alarm if I sear things inside the house. However, I'm 72 years old and the cast iron griddle weighs more than 7 pounds, which seems pretty heavy when I'm lifting it. When I read that carbon steel was a lot lighter than cast iron but worked just as well, I decided to give it a try. This griddle got great reviews and all the on-line information said it weighed 1 pound, so I decided to pay the big bucks. Imagine my surprise when I pulled it out of the box and weighed it to find that it weighed over 7 pounds and was only 6 ounces lighter than my old cast iron griddle! I am greatly disappointed by this blatant false advertising, and am going to return it promptly. Phooey!
Purchased for new electric, glass cooktop to replace separate electric, countertop griddle. Issues since day one with heating and cooking. Used a thermometer gun and temperatures vary by 125+ degrees away from the burners. Looked underneath griddle while on the stove - mostly daylight. Does not sit flat on the stove, but touches on each end so it doesn't rock. Would not recommend for kitchen. Probably would be just fine thrown in a fire out in the woods for hotdogs, but at a hundred bucks, there are far better alternatives.
The item is exactly what I ordered and have no issue with the product. However, the supplier shipped it with complete disregard. It was placed in a box too small and was taped shut even though it was too long. To the point that the box had holes in it. In addition it was covered in scratches and had chips in the handles as there was no packing whatsoever to protect it. The scratches look as if they might have been present before it was shipped. The packaging is completely ridiculous that a carbon iron materialed item would have this much damage.
Was planning to use this on our glass-top induction stove but it arrived warped and didn't sit flat - which would have been annoying for cooking but really doesn't work with the induction system. returned prior to using.
I own many Lodge items, and overall have loved their products. They have always been quality, and I have always been a loyal Lodge customer. I bought this identical griddle in Dec 2019, and loved it so much, I bought another one, identical in March 2022. First of all, the cost was double; not surprising, given the current crazy inflation. However, I was still willing to pay the price, as I already own this griddle, and am very, very happy with it. The reason for my complaint however, is that the new one warps very badly, and is basically useless for me.
It looks like it's solid but it's really not. It's rusting like crazy and it doesn't cook evenly. Definitely regret buying it. I should have spent the extra money and gotten a solid one. We get what we pay for.
Don’t be fooled by all of these great reviews, they are completely inaccurate. I have had many carbon steel pans and know exactly how to season them, this pan did not perform at all, I’m not sure if the quality is lacking or what, but don’t waste your money.
