To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Update, I continue to write the company and Amazon about the 1 year warranty. No one responds on how to replace these under warranty. Update: Still no response from Amazon or Mfg. Walked past my pit yesterday and the gauge was registering a little over 100 in the shade......it was 85 outside. Waste of $23.00. Just as upset that Amazon has not responded.
REVISED REVIEW. I tried for the last three weeks to contact the Amazon seller via email. No one has responded. the one therm that was close to accurate fogged up and was useless on the first cook.
If you need to trust your temperatures for your pit buy something else these are junk with no seller support.
I only bought these because they claim to be adjustable. The instructions included also indicate so. THESE do not have a gasket and you cannot loosen the nut to access the adjustment. Out of the box one was off 5 degrees and the other 20. The other strange thing is that one responded very quickly and the other noticeably slower. I would figure that they would react similarly.
I just put a smoker together and wanted the therms to match. I am past the 30-day return window so I will try the MFG or just use the one until I can find a decent replacement that I can calibrate.
The description says the thermometers are accurate. Mine are off as much as 20 to 40 degrees. There is no way of adjusting them which if I knew this before my purchase I would have cancelled my order. They do look good they just are not what they seem. I tried to reach out to the seller and have not heard from them. So not only they are not accurate but they are not supported very well.
installed on a Oklahoma Joe grill / smoker and next morning there was moisture in both of them not happy about them look good just not with the moisture not a good selling point when others come to visit and eat with us at our computer store
Awful design. Tested both in boiling water, one was off by 8 degrees, and the other was off by almost 15. I can't smoke under these imprecise conditions. In top of it, no tiny 'zero (32F)' mark to test in cold h2o (which would simply be easier) and no adjustment nut to move the needle either??
At least myself, and my stepfather, a pro cook, couldn't adjust it. If I'm wrong, I'm all ears.
Thermometer was of decent quality of what you could expect for the price, however there is no way of calibrating it. I bought two. In regular air temp they differ by 50 degrees. The smaller 2" units are adjustable. I don't understand why these are not. :(
Only one of the two was accurate. Seal must be broken on the glass on the bad one. After first use it fogged up so bad you couldn’t read the temperature. Tested digital against both. One was 5° off, other was 260° off. Pic shows 130 vs 325 as well as condensation on glass.
I tested these gauges against two digital thermometers and the boiling water test. At low temperatures (e.g. boiling point of water) one gauge was off by 11 degrees while the other was off 15. At higher temperatures (e.g. 275) both gauges were off 20 degrees. Sent back and will by a pair from another seller. I would not recommend these at all.
