To put a long story short -this is not to say that the book is really long: What the reader gets are 82 pages with quite big letters and lots of weird drawings. The "book" can be read in a couple of hours if the reader doesn't get bored to death doing so. I have read many short stories by Dahl so far, alas I have to say this is one of his weaker works. I have very often been flabbergasted by the twists and wits of Dahl's stories. Most of his plots are quite surprising. Not here. Three farmers are going to shoot a fox and his family. By a "cunning" plan our "fantastic" Mr. Fox is avoiding this endeavour: he simply keeps on digging deeper and deeper in the ground and through 82 pages. In the end finding himself dining with his family and friends a couple of feet below the waiting hunters. The "story" closes with "And so far as I know, they are still waiting." Come on, seriously? That's it? No punchline? No sarcasm? No weird ending as most of Dahl's writings have?

Big deal. Really. The book clearly benefits from Dahl's name. Written by any other unknown author no one would even bother looking at the scribbled and really bad drawings in the book as well. (No, I do not really care that the "drawings" were done by "a friend of Dahl", this doesn't make them look fancier either.) Summary: Dahl not as brilliant as usual. Any fourth grade students could do better. I am quite disappointed.

This was a last minute purchase and this morning when I opened the package to put the book in my son's bookbag I saw in how in bad shape the book is. I can't return it.I wish I could. We will keep it because my son needs for school today, but it is in bad shape.

The story is indeed very good and that is just because of the author. But the quality of book is pathetic. The pages quality is so poor and they are not coloured. The book pages are just like the books which are sold on roadside. And not worth more then rs 50. I belive the company must ensure that the seller should not do this fraud to its customers. After all it tarnish the image of esteemed co. like amazon. So bad experience this time.

My son had to read for summer reading before 3rd grade. I read it as well, so we could discuss. This books was awful. The plot was bad. There were no life lesson and there was inappropriate behavior. Honestly, I found nothing redeeming in this book.

I was expecting the illustration Inside the book to be in red or some colour as it was stated eg ‘red interior text’. Why not just say ‘black and white illustration’. Disappointed to have paid £8.49 and now price dropped :(
