For reference, I am a 120-pound 5’5” woman with normally spaced shoulders for my size, so I don’t think my frame could be what is causing this issue. It seems like the magnet itself is rather weak, which is a major issue as it is the only fastener keeping the bag together. If they reconstruct the bag with a stronger magnet, I think it’d be a pretty rad bag. For now, though, it’s just okay.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Right out of the box, it was very stiff and crisp - as expected of a canvas bag. The straps were also a bit rough and stiff on my bare shoulders, but if I wore something with sleeves like a t-shirt, it was alright. The shoulder straps felt a bit wide for me, and would rub against my inner upper arms a bit. I was a little worried about this, but continued to use the bag since it was only $50, a pretty great price for bags in general. The inner lining has a peppermint pattern to it, and I find it extremely attractive against its black exterior. There's a front compartment (still under the flap) with a zipper, where I tend to store my wallet and keys. It's actually easy to access without having to lift up the flap.
ONE MONTH LATER:
After some time, I've come to think this bag is perfect! The straps and the rest of the bag have softened with use, and it no longer bothers me as I wear it, even without sleeves. It's lightweight, slim, and very attractive. I like the minimalist aesthetic to it and really appreciate that it hugs my body closely (I chose to tighten the shoulder straps quite a bit), much appreciated since you don't want a backpack to stick out far from your person when you ride a crowded subway train. Speaking of the shoulder straps, they are exceptionally easy to tighten and loosen without having to take off the bag. This is a really nice touch, and makes it very easy to adjust when I put it on and realize I want to loosen the straps to compensate for the large bulk I put in the bag.
This has been a GREAT substitution for a purse during my daily commute. I fit my breakfast, my lunch, a sketchbook and pencil case, a notebook, a sweater, all at the same time. It can definitely fit a 15" MacBook Pro, and has also fit my medium-sized Intuos tablet!! The tablet is a little taller than the height of the bag itself. I see there are other reviewers who don't think their 15" MacBook Pro can't fit -- they probably did not adjust the leather belt strap on the front. Like a regular belt, you can move it to the last hole to give yourself more slack, so you can close it. Totally works great :) The magnetic closure on the belt works well too; it has never disconnected itself, even after I shoved 6lb of produce in to this backpack and it looked more like a duffel bag than a slim backpack.
My back and shoulders feel a lot better now that I don't carry my crap all on one side anymore. Highly recommended product!
The heavily padded shoulder straps make you think it will be comfortable to carry heavy items but the closure is too weak; it’s magnetic and pops open if it’s weighed down by your stuff or bent out of shape. It doesn’t even have to be filled to capacity.
It’d be better is they had made the zipper to close the large compartment instead of the thin pocket.
