The same amazing Quentin Blake illustrations but in glorious Full Colour!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 26 July 2022Verified Purchase
This is my favourite Roald Dahl book, they are all amazing, but this I keep going back to more than the others. It's such an amazing story even though it's one of the shorter of his more well-known ones.
I've just finished reading this to my 5 year old son, I tried to read it to him before but only had a small, black and white illustrated, version which I've had for about 30 years. He was much more attentive and engaged with the story this time around and I think this has a lot to do with the book being larger in size (closer to A4) and full colour illustrations.
The chapters are quite short, which is good when reading you your child before their bedtime. There is no 'filler' , just amazing story on every page.
You've probably read this book before so know what is about, but if you don't have this larger, full-colour version, I strongly recommend you get it. It's 100% worth it. 😁

Very Clever Fox Outwits Nasty Farmers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 1 January 2020Verified Purchase
Fantastic Mr. Fox is an interesting book about life in the countryside. Mr. and Mrs. Fox and their four cubs are trying to outwit three horrible farmers. The farmers are called Bunce, Boggis and Bean. They are really, really nasty. Roald Dahl paints vivid pictures of the three of them.
Mr. Fox is brave and very, very smart. He works together with Mr Badger, to keep their families safe underground, far from the diggers, shovels and guns of the nasty farmers. Mr Fox dug three tunnels, to each of the farm’s cellars and managed to steal all he could to feed all the animal families!
I don’t think Roald Dahl likes the farmers very much, as they get what they deserve. At the end of the book, they are all sitting around the foxhole in the pouring rain while the animals have a great big banquet underneath them.
All kids my age should find this book funny and hilarious and not too difficult to read on their own.

PLUS: Fantastic read, there is also a moral Question. MINUS: It reflects patriarchy of the 1950's
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 24 August 2022Verified Purchase
Fantastic book, my 7yo daughter enjoyed every bit of it (I read it, she was listening) I spotted two issues:
A)The story is in accordance to a patriarchal hierarchy of the family. Mrs Fox gets weak as they hunting goes on, but clever Mr Fox finds a way to save her, the four kids and their friends. So minus one star.
B)There is a moral question. Fox steals to save his family and friends, but his friend Badger raises the question if it is ethical to do so. Stealing is always wrong, right? Apparently, not always. This issue can spark lots of thoughts and discussions.

Good product, inaccurate delivery, worth buying
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 31 March 2022Verified Purchase
Noted that one earlier reviewerhad complained of the illustrations being in black and white apart from the cover. In my copy all the illustrations were in full colour.
Looks to be a good birthday present, but the stated delivery details propmted my earlier review (of it not haveing been delivered). Turns out that 'posted through letterbox' in fact meant it was handed to a neighbour so in fairness a proper review is derserved.
Some of the text appears a little daunting for a young child, but might usefully prompt questions about the meaning of some words, widening their vocabulary. Decent quality print, hopefully will wear well.

Description misleading!

I was expecting the illustration Inside the book to be in red or some colour as it was stated eg ‘red interior text’. Why not just say ‘black and white illustration’. Disappointed to have paid £8.49 and now price dropped :(
