About Us

For Bob Moore, it all started with a kernel of truth—a wheat kernel, that is. Back in the 1960s, Bob’s wife, Charlee, decided that she would feed her family nutritious whole grains, starting with an incredible loaf of whole wheat bread fresh from the oven. Bob and Charlee met on a blind date in 1952. It was Charlee who first inspired the couple’s whole grain adventure when she decided to create a life for her family by feeding them wholesome, natural foods and whole grains. Charlee was a fixture in the original Bob’s Red Mill store and took on many roles in the early days, including packaging products by hand.

I am originally from Ukraine and I know the true taste and quality of a buckwheat. This product is nothing to do with traditional buckwheat we have there. If you want to experience real buckwheat you should buy it from international supermarkets and then you will see the difference. I definitely do not recommend this product.

I grew up eating organic buckwheat (grechka) porridge that my grandmother used to make for me , and I know flavor of real buckwheat. This is definitive the best buckwheat I have tried here in US. It cooks in 10-15 minutes and retains density of the grain. I love this product , and Bobs Red Mills never disappoint..

I recently started a new diet plan for diabetics and have been trying out a lot of grains that are new to me. I'd never had buckwheat before, except as a flour in pancake mix. It's really tasty! I had it in a bowl mixed with grilled chicken, veggies and spices and will be trying it in other meals as well. Lots better than quinoa (the only grain I really don't care for so far). I've used Bob's Red Mill products in the past. They are always great.

I bought these buckwheat groats to cook with rice because of the nutritional benefits. The buckwheat is an easy add-on to lots of things. My favorite is to put the buckwheat and rice together in the rice cooker, stir in spices and veg, and end up with a delicious dish that's a step up from using rice alone. Bob's Red Mill products have never failed me, and these groats are no exception.

If you like amaranth, I’m sure you’ll like this product. HOWEVER, it’s not my jam. This is the first time I’ve ever tried amaranth and it’s okay. Maybe I’m not cooking it correctly, but it digests like corn does which is to say…not at all. And to be honest, the taste doesn’t wow me enough to try to figure out if I’m doing something wrong with the cooking.

The bag also was popped when it arrived. The company that packed the bag put it in an envelope, rather than a small box, so it got smashed and the top popped open. I tried a little bit anyway since I’m just boiling the product and killing anything in there.

I guess if you like amaranth, this product is fine. I’ll stick with buckwheat for my gluten-free grain.
