Made in Germany
As with the DT 770 PRO, the DT 1770 PRO is also handcrafted in Germany. And it's not just the materials used that make this high-end product a long-term investment.
Top-Class Studio Reference Headphones
Uncompromising Overall Concept
Music producers and sound studio operators have been putting their trust unfailingly in the DT 770 PRO for more than 30 years. The next evolutionary step is now being taken with its big brother, the DT 1770 PRO. The closed reference headphones combine decades of expertise in headphone technology with the latest Tesla 2.0 driver technology.
In addition to its high-resolution and well-balanced sound, the DT 1770 PRO sets a new standard not least in terms of design and workmanship.
Tesla 2.0 Technology
Power and precision are critical requirements when it comes to sound reproduction. The systems used to drive every DT 1770 PRO are characterised by superior efficiency and never fail to impress thanks to their precise and richly detailed sound. A three-layer compound membrane is used to suppress break-up vibrations. Carefully selected acoustic fabric ensures distortion-free sound reproduction. Spaciousness and excellent resolution with balanced bass at the same time make the headphones the first choice for professional studio use. The DT 1770 PRO is also an uncompromising headphone for use in live environments thanks to its outstanding output level.
The DT 1770 PRO is the answer to every imaginable studio situation. The refusal to compromise is expressed not only in the sound and optics, rather is also reflected in the accessories supplied. Replaceable velour ear pads (open sound for mastering) as well as leatherette ear pads (closed sound for monitoring) are included as standard, similarly a coiled cable and a straight cable with detachable mini-XLR cable connector.
The fine-tuning of the headband construction makes the headphones ideal for long studio sessions thanks to their perfect fit. The DT 1770 PRO combines empirical values, German engineering skill and the most advanced technology in one. Maximum wearing comfort is also guaranteed thanks to optimised contact pressure together with the latest high-tech textiles. Headphones so comfortable you almost forget you are wearing them.
Apart from the technical features, the pure look and feel of the headphones cannot fail to impress as soon as they are unpacked. The clear lines of the anodized aluminium yokes complement the elegant design of the headphone shells, underscoring the timeless design and high quality of the materials.

Comfortable, doesn’t get hot around the ears, not too heavy, and the sound quality is dope.

I'm lowering the score from 5 stars to 3 stars because my first and second pair have been defective after some usage. The first and second pair developed distortion and a very audible ringing when heavy bass music is played. I have another pair of headphones, way cheaper than this one and that one doesn't have any ringing or distortion when heavy bass music is played. Also after listening for sometime and carefully...I think there's very little difference between this 500 dollars headphones and my other 200 dollar pair so...I'm done with this particular headphone. This is my 4th order, the first two orders I didn't even open the box because they arrive with clear signs that they weren't brand new. Also the box came really beated up. And now the two pairs that I got to try have that problem with the driver. I'm done but man when this works, is just the best sound I have ever heard.
Beyerdynamic has corrected the issues with the latest batch of DT 1770 Pro. The one I receive recently is AMAZING. Even the pads look newer and better. I think even the build quality has improved. I'm updating this review back to 5 stars. After listening to this headphone again is like ahhhh this sound sooo good.
Of course, I could get upgraded ear pads for the MJ2s, but then that would kill another strong point they have going that the Beyers don't........extra portability. The MJ2s fold in and come with a pretty compact egg-shaped box. From what I've read, these upgraded pads make it impossible to fold the MJ2s in, which negates their portability factor. I will admit that the MJ2s over time didn't seem as uncomfortable with the stock pads as I originally perceived, but I still wanted a bit more space and more soundstage (which of course results in better instrument separation). So the 1770s just made more sense!
The DT-1770 Pros are built TO LAST and look gorgeous! The outer ear cups are made up of a high-grade plastic which looks really nice, and it has a little bit of plastic on the sides where the headband adjusters begin. But other than that, they are all metal and a GENUINE leather headband! The pads are velour (default) and leatherette/pleather. Several pro reviewers agreed that the leatherette ones sound much better, so you wanna switch to them IMO. The velours might be slightly more comfortable though?
My final take on these two is..........if portability is a big deal for you, you can't go wrong with the MJ2s. Like the DT-1770s, they are crystal clear and VERY detail-revealing! But if you don't mind a bigger headphone (but still portable, IMO), I feel you get the very best sound from the 1770s. The Tesla 2.0 drivers are great and can get pretty loud despite the 250-ohm impedance rating. The MJ2's special brand of electrostatic drivers are fantastic too!
A few notes: With regards to the Beyers, I decided to get the shorter 4' braided replacement cable off Amazon as I felt 10' was way too long on the stock one. It will come in today. With regards to the ear pads, I've now ordered not one but TWO different replacement ear pads! I will evaluate both and then post my thoughts next week. The first one is the hybrid inner velour/outer sheepskin leather Dekoni pads (eBay), and then I found out that Dekoni also has an ALL sheepskin leather ear pad for all the Beyers headphones too, so ordered that as well off Amazon. I should have both by Monday or sooner. I will update this review next week. Although the leatherette pads are pretty comfortable, I still wanted a little more comfort, which is why I ordered the 2 different replacement pads.
**UPDATE: I ended up going with the Dekoni Audio Elite Sheepskin Leather Ear Pads for Beyerdynamic DT Series Headphones. Better isolation, which results in better bass too. And definitely more comfortable than the stock leatherette pads as well.**
Ignore the reviewers saying this is a neutral headphone, it is as "neutral" as a dt770. They lean more torwards "fun sounding" as beyerdynamic is typically known for. It has a bassy sound signature with deep, powerful, and hard hitting bass that still avoids being muddy. Mids are a bit withdrawn and somewhat unnatural but nowhere near unlistenable. The somewhat withdrawn mids are what make these headphones have a very wide soundstage for a closed back which in my opinion is a worthy trade off. The treble has a sparkle that helps everything sound clean and clear. The comfort is pretty good but still far from "wear and forget," you will always know you are wearing them. They have great isolation with the pleather earpads, much better than any other closed back headphone I own. Speaking of earpads, the replaceable earpads are kind of a joke since they are so inconveniently hard to put back on once you remove them. Pressing on each earcup exhibits a creaking sound which is extremely disappointing considering how beautiful these headphones are
