I have used android all my life and this is my first ever iPhone. The good:
1. The battery life is pretty good. My Pixel 4a used to die on me mid day. This one lasts full day with easy 6 hours plus screen time and still has 30% left at the end of the day
2. Cinematic mode - I still believe my pixel was one of the best shooters I ever had, but the cinematic mode of this phone is in a different league altogether. I shot a short video in cinematic mode, and when I watched it I actually felt I was watching a movie. If someone knows how to exploit this camera, you can make a short film out of it
3. iPhone does allow you to download music and videos from 3rd party websites unlike popular belief. The only issue is that it wonβt sit on your music player, but you may play it from downloads
4. Trf of old phone files and WhatsApp was seamless - The βmove to iosβ feature worked like a charm
5. Solid speakers - loud and brassy
6. Lock Screen Customization options are slick. The wallpaper and widgets customization on iOS 16 makes the phone so much more personal unlike the previous ios versions
7. Focus mode and Downtime mode are amazing. I was a big fan of this on Oneplus and Pixel, and it works well here
8. The search anything from home screen feature is by far the best feature on this phone. I use it for searching everything- from apps to setting to contacts. Itβs just brilliant and makes life so easy
8. The display is drop dead gorgeous. It just makes everything look so sharp (itβs like I am watching a 2k or 4k screen)
8. High snob value - my friends and colleagues were more excited to see the phone than I was. iPhone has a charm of its own which no android phone generates
9. Siri voice recognition is pretty good. Compared to Google assistant which would struggle with my voice and Indian accent, at least basic commands of calling someone or setting up an alarm work pretty well on Siri
Whatβs bad:
1. No T9 dialer. For someone who comes from an Android world, this is a big miss.
2. You canβt edit a number before calling on the dial pad. Cmon Apple, whatβs the justification for not having this rudimentary feature which even the age old Nokia phones had
3. iPhone freezes and acts funny sometimes. Itβs a myth that IPhone never hangs or acts buggy. It does. Happened to me thrice already in 10 days
4. The keypad is nowhere close to SwiftKey. Not having the numbers row on the main layout and switching constantly from alphabets to numbers and punctuations is a big pain. Yes you can download SwiftKey, but it doesnβt work as smooth on iPhone and misses a lot of features compared to the android version
5. 3rd party apps that compete with IPhoneβs native apps wonβt work properly on this phone. Like Dialers, Chrome, keypads etc. On android you can completely discard the native apps and use other apps. Not on iPhone
6. iCloud back up- iCloud only has 5Gb free memory vs 15GB on Google. Another way for Apple to charge you and make money. I have 12gb of pics and videos transferred from my old device, and now I canβt back it up on iCloud without paying extra
7. You canβt access settings for most apps from within the app. You need to go to settings menu and then hope to find that setting that you want to change (yes many a time you may not even have the option to change a setting, unlike android where most of the things are customizable)
These are some of the main pros and cons I have personally experienced during the last 10 days of use. Overall, the phone is good. It doesnβt have a ton of features, but it does well what it does well. Is it worth the price I have paid - i donβt think so. I think this should be pegged at about 120-150 dollars lesser. But I guess Appleβs strategy is to make you believe that higher price means better phone
